Welcome to the latest edition of our network newsletter!
As the year draws to a close, we would like to thank our community for thei=
r invaluable support. This includes both the legal professionals who provid=
ed advice and assistance and the organisations who gave us the opportunity =
to support their wonderful work.
In this newsletter, we highlight some of our events and achievements from t=
he past few months, showcasing the incredible impact of our collaborative e=
fforts.
Our Pilot Programme with Fireflies Coaching
In partnership with Fireflies [https://firefliesworld.org/], a community =
of Europe-based co-active coaches, we piloted a free leadership coaching pr=
ogramme for NGO managers. The programme consisted of three half-day in-pers=
on workshops, followed by four one-to-one mentoring sessions, and a lessons=
-learned debrief. With more than 40 participants in total, we were delighte=
d by the overwhelming interest and attendance from our network!
Behind the amazing and impactful work of our social enterprise and NGO netw=
ork members, there are talented and highly driven people who work to drive =
social and environmental change. Coaching provides invaluable opportunities=
for the NGO workforce to enhance their capabilities and lead their organis=
ations to their full potential, and we are very excited to be part of this =
initiative.
It was wonderful to attend the workshops and connect with the TrustLaw netw=
ork to learn alongside them. The insightful sessions focused on active list=
ening, reflecting on our leadership aspirations and desired global impact, =
and finding the right balance between BEING and DOING to foster healthy and=
impactful leadership.
We extend our sincere thanks to DLA Piper LLP for generously hosting the th=
ree workshops and making this initiative possible.

Our Updated Data Protection Guide for NGOs and Charities is Out Now!
NGOs are increasingly alert to the legal risks associated with data protect=
ion. TrustLaw continues to receive a high number of requests for advice and=
assistance with data protection policies and processes.
In November, we published our updated data protection guide for NGOs and ch=
arities. The guide provides charities and NGOs with an introduction to data=
protection rules that govern the way they collect and use personal data, a=
nd practical tips to help them mitigate common legal risks. This guide was =
developed in collaboration with CMS, who provided training on GDPR and prov=
ided practical insights and best practices that UK-based organisations can =
follow at our launch webinar last month.
We know that there are many organisations beyond our existing networks that=
would benefit from this resource, so please feel free to share it widely.

ro Bono Impact Event
At TrustLaw, we recognise that pro bono work can be a powerful instrument f=
or social and environmental change. It also plays a vital role in developin=
g positive working practices within the legal profession. To support this m=
ission, we hosted a panel discussion on impact measurement featuring repres=
entatives from Business for Societal Impact (B4SI), Hogan Lovells LLP, and =
Latham & Watkins LLP.
At this event, we highlighted our =E2=80=98 Measuring Pro Bono Impact [htt=
ps://www.trust.org/resource/measuring-pro-bono-impact/]=E2=80=99 guide whic=
h was published earlier this year, and our five-step impact measurement fr=
amework designed to help law firms design more impact-conscious pro bono st=
rategies and projects. We heard examples of different approaches to impact =
measurement from industry leaders and gathered insights on a wide range of =
challenges and practices in this area.
We extend our thanks to our panellists and attendees for contributing to an=
engaging discussion, and to Latham & Watkins LLP, who generously hosted us=
in their London office.
TrustLaw Joins Steering Group of Attorney General=E2=80=99s Pro Bono Commit=
tee
We are proud to announce that TrustLaw has joined the Steering Group of the=
Attorney General=E2=80=99s Pro Bono Committee of England & Wales. The Atto=
rney General=E2=80=99s Committee supports the provision of legal pro bono t=
hat is effective, collaborative, and coordinated. It achieves this by bring=
ing together representatives from various groups, including the legal profe=
ssion, legal societies, charities, pro bono initiatives, law schools, and g=
overnment. These representatives share information, discuss challenges and =
planned initiatives, and collaborate through a dedicated forum.
TrustLaw has been a longstanding member of the Attorney General=E2=80=99s C=
ommittee, and our position in the Steering Group enables us to play a more =
active role in its work and share our global pro-bono expertise to inform a=
nd enrich the pro-bono community in England and Wales.

TrustLaw and PILnet Explore Use of AI in Daily Operations
As more NGOs and social enterprises explore AI=E2=80=99s capabilities to en=
hance their impact, there is increasing awareness of the legal, practical a=
nd ethical challenges of adopting AI into their daily operations. We do not=
think that the law should be a barrier to the adoption of AI. It should be=
an instrument that enables organisations to explore opportunities, underst=
and their options, and ensure that their adoption of AI is done safely, res=
ponsibly, fairly and lawfully.
TrustLaw has teamed up with PILnet to help NGOs and social enterprises unde=
rstand and mitigate legal risks associated with the use of Generative AI by=
hosting trainings and developing resources to inform the creation of inte=
rnal AI policies. In December, we co-hosted a webinar in which Morrison Foe=
rster presented insights on how the EU AI Act impacts the use of AI by orga=
nisations, and some practical guidance on the measures that NGOs can take t=
o protect themselves from foreseeable legal risks and challenges.
We're incredibly thankful for the dedication and achievements of our member=
s throughout 2024. We're excited to continue offering our support as we mov=

-based co-active coaches, we piloted a free leadership coaching programme f=
or NGO managers. The programme consisted of three half-day in-person worksh=
ops, followed by four one-to-one mentoring sessions, and a lessons-learned =
debrief. With more than 40 participants in total, we were delighted by the =
overwhelming interest and attendance from our network! </p><p class=3D=
"size-16" style=3D"Margin-top: 20px;Margin-bottom: 0;font-size: 16px;line-h=
eight: 24px;" lang=3D"x-size-16">Behind the amazing and impactful work of o=
ur social=20
enterprise and NGO network members, there are talented and highly driven pe=
ople who work to drive social and environmental change. Coaching provides i=
nvaluable opportunities for the NGO workforce to enhance their capabilities=
and lead their organisations to their full potential, and we are very exci=

In December, we co-hosted a webinar in which Morrison Foerster presented in=
sights on how the EU AI Act impacts the use of AI by organisations, and som=
e practical guidance on the measures that NGOs can take to protect themselv=
es from foreseeable legal risks and challenges. </p>
